Rare 17th Century Stumpwork Embroidered Panel
Depicting Charles II and Catherine of Braganza standing in an oval frame, a house in the distance with in flowering and fruiting trees, flowers and shrubs within a menagerie of insects, birds, lion, leopard, etc. In later burr walnut box frame.
Stumpwork or raised work is a style of embroidery where the figures are raised from the surface of the work to form a 3 dimensional effect. Popular in England between 1650 – 1700.
