19th Century Marble Bust Lady Burdett-Coutts
Fine and rare 19th Century carved marble bust of Lady Angela Burdett-Coutts, (1814 – 1906) by the sculptor William Brodie R.S.A. (1815 – 1888). Fine original condition, signed and dated on the back William Brodie R.S.A. 1879.
Angela Burdett-Coutts 1st Baroness Burdett-Coutts, daughter of the banker Thomas Coutts. She was a philanthropist and co founded The national society for the prevention of cruelty to children (NSPCC) in 1884. She was the first Victorian woman to receive a peerage and gave away 3 million pounds in her lifetime. She died in 1906 and is buried in Westminster Abbey.
