Lovely oil on canvas portrait, the original of which is possibly one of Reynolds’
most famous paintings / character studies, or ‘fancy pictures’ as the genre was known
in the eighteenth century.

SIR JOSHUA REYNOLDS RA FRS FRSA (16 July 1723 – 23 February 1792) was a highly influential 18th-century English painter, who specialized in portraits. He was one of the founders and first President of the Royal Academy. King George III, in appreciation of his merits, knighted him in 1769.
